andie macdowell: the object of affection

so this weekend i undertook an endeavor so coloussal and so close to my new adopted hometown. i downloaded an andie macdowell triple feature, in all of which she's the mark of beauty: sex, lies and videotape, groundhog day, and st. elmo's fire. i subjected my roommate with her brat-pack invasion, st. elmo's fire. she's not part of that core group, but she manages to make emilo as nuts as his pops hunting col. kurtz in apocalypse. on the menu for tonight is bill murray trying to make it all right for just one day. he also memorizes the day's answers and questions on jeopardy ( a dream of my own.). wish me luck with sex, lies; it's awkward. in all seriousness, it's soderbergh's first feature, and it was probably as weighty in its own time as pulp fiction. peep 'em.

total recall

i know a lot of you (as if there are any) aren't going to like what i'm proposing, but, whatev. i am calling for a referendum on beards. people love to complain about the body hair on the women in this town. what's more frightening and more in your face (literally his) is facial hair on the men of asheville. short guys, tall guys with manicured facial hair or bushy beards i hate 'em all. let me just take a page from the ny yankees organizational rule book: no beards, chops, goatees, van dykes and the like. the only thing even permissible is the mustache, and no man my age can be taken seriously with a stash. i could almost pose that same seriousness about beards, but i won't allow it. nope.

dap it up!

i'm not sure how this slipped under my radar, but tonight sharon jones and her dap kings will be gracing the blue rigde region with their soul swagger. i saw her light up the basement of the blueberry hill in stl touring the 100 days, 100 nights album. to paraphrase ferris bueller, if you have the means i highly recommend picking [a ticket] up. the show is tonight at the orange peel; it's $20/advance & $22/door.

Eluvium @ the FLOOD

so i don't know much about this guy other than he makes interesting music. i don't know, though, it could be like a headphone masterpiece, or it could be something amazing and atmospheric. it's worth checking out for yourself. harvest records is promoting the show, and it is saturday may 15 at the flood gallery. the price is $10 in advance and $12 day off. also the show is all ages, so bring the kids and their juice boxes.

observation deck

here are just a couple of the salient truths i've come to notice being here in north carolina for a week now:

1) just because an attractive woman is driving a subaru, it does not mean she's gay. they all drive subaru's.

2) so i should probably start growing a beard for it looks like all the cute, earthy girls go for the homeless looking type.
